Support Worker / Mentor - Young Men

Envision Connection | Newcastle & Hunter | Casual

Help someone build the confidence to say, “I can do this.”

Starting a conversation. Learning a practical skill. Getting out into the community. Taking that first step towards work.

Confidence grows through opportunities to try - and having someone alongside you who listens, follows through and gives you room to find your feet.

Envision Connection is looking for a Support Worker / Mentor to help young men build confidence, independence and skills for everyday life.

The purpose is simple: build a genuine relationship that helps each young man move towards what matters to him.

The work you’ll do

You’ll help turn goals into everyday opportunities to learn and grow:

  • Build connection: Support social and communication skills through conversations, shared activities and community participation.

  • Develop independence: Help young men practise everyday life skills, establish positive routines and make their own decisions.

  • Prepare for work: Build confidence, responsibility and practical habits that support work readiness.

  • Encourage a go: Offer guidance and appropriate challenge while leaving space for someone to try things themselves.

  • Recognise progress: Notice strengths, celebrate effort and help each person see what they’re achieving.

That means knowing when to offer encouragement, when to break something into smaller steps and when to give someone time to work it out.

How you show up matters

You build trust through your actions.
You turn up, follow through and communicate honestly. You understand that a meaningful mentoring relationship develops over time.

You listen before stepping in.
You take an interest in the person’s goals, preferences and ideas. Their choices help shape the support you provide.

You encourage without taking over.
You give someone room to try, make mistakes and try again. You recognise when to adjust your approach.

You offer guidance with respect.
You model positive habits, maintain professional boundaries and help someone follow through on commitments without losing sight of their right to choose.

What you’ll need

  • NDIS Worker Screening Check.

  • Working With Children Check.

  • First Aid and CPR.

  • Current Australian driver licence.

  • Reliable, insured vehicle.

  • Right to work in Australia.

Sound like your kind of work?

Email hello@envisionconnection.com.au with:

  • Your résumé, outlining your experience and qualifications.

  • A cover letter explaining how you meet the requirements and how your approach aligns with the values described above.

We’d love to hear what draws you to mentoring young men. Share a practical example of how you’ve helped someone build confidence, try something new or develop independence.

What happens next?

Shortlisted applicants will be invited to a brief, 15-minute Zoom or Teams conversation to get to know each other and discuss their suitability for the role. Applicants progressing from there will be invited to an in-person interview.
